Help!!! code p0715. Replaced speed sensor!!!

Hi guys, new to the forum.

I just bought an 03, e320 for pennies. It had the check engine light on with the p0715, after reading the forums for about a week and feeling confident, I went ahead and replaced the conductor plate, the connector, tranny fluid, oil pan gasket and drain plug, got the dipstick tool to check fluid level.

After doing all that, the transmission feels much better, but it still doesn't change gears.

What else do I need to do, what am I missing???????

One of main things to do is wash the transmission plug and TCM.
I hope by connector you meant pilot bushing?

thanks for the quick response kajtek1, yes I meant the pilot bushing.
I cleaned the plug, there was some oil around the plug, but the contacts were pretty dry.
The TCM, it did not even occurred to me to take a look at it, where is it located????

Google for all the DIY pictorials
W211 are still new to me, but I think computer modules are under the windshield gutter.

You have to clear the stored code using Star before the transmission will function normally.

Thanks Jimbo, exactly what I was looking for.

I hate stealerships, called one and explained my situation, told them exactly what I had done and what I needed, to clear the P0715 code from the TCU, the guy knew what I was talking about and still told me they needed to keep the car for 1 or 2 days to check for other things that might cause the code.

Why can't they just do what you ask them to do????

By the way, can some one point me to where the TCU is located, my google fu is lacking, I just get pics of W210s TCUs.

Does the vehicle move at all?
if not, you can forget it being a electrical issue.
If it doesn't move at all then you have a hydraulic issue.
if it was electrical you would be in limp mode aka you'd have 1st and 2nd gear....

Before it would make a very loud noise when going from park or reverse to drive, its no longer doing that.

Try erasing dtcs. Or try disconnecting battery for a while....

Disconnecting the battery doesn't help with transmission codes.
You need SD or equivalent to clear the code.
This is pretty good video showing the issues, although on W210. Same transmission.

this is W211 "computer coffin" removal. Seems nobody deal with TCU on those yet.

Thanks again man, I'll be diving for the TCU tomorrow to check for oil intrusion.

On a different note, I called another place, and got the same treatment, trying to upsell me things and services that I do not need, nor asked for.

Since I don't see this TCU reset costing me less than $200 bucks, am now thinking of buying an SD, would one of the chinese star C3 be able to erase the TCU codes, could I also use it to retrofit parts on the car such as a newer head unit????
Where's a good place to buy it from???

TCU reset is like 5 minutes including plugin the computer, but ask cmriv how much he charges for it
Buying SD scanner is not that easy. I bought Chinese carsoft few years ago and could not make it working.
Now I am trying to restart it with help of friendly technician. Will see how far I can go.
I've been driving digital vehicles for over 10 years and fixed several issues without SD.
Than you will have "keyboard mechanics" who are not able to tell you bolt size without VIN

I'd love to pay cmriv(hint, hint) or another forum member for the service, however, I think he's too far from me.
If there's some one in the north Atlanta area (Marietta) that is willing to give me a hand, I'll be more than happy to compensate you for your troubles.

If you think this cars are digital, you should get your hands on a Land Rover, I've been driving my LR3 for over 7 years, and have fixed everything on it myself, I do have a GAP IID diagnostics computer for it which has proven invaluable and its worth its weight in gold.
That's why I ask for the SDS, I know its gonna pay for itself after a couple of uses.

If the W210 is similar to the W202 which I have (C43 AMG), the TCU is under the passenger foot-well carpet. Oups sorry I just watched the first video above and saw that the TCU is in the engine compartment, not the cockpit! Indeed if the harness plug is faulty, the ATF will wick up the harness to the TCU and do plenty of nasty things. As you mentioned the plug wasn't really wet, I doubt this is your problem.

PS I have the same code and I also did everything you mentioned in your first post, but I'm still gtrying to erase the code as the vehicle doesn't change gears at all. I have a Star clone software, but I'm having some small problems to get my PC talking to the ECU to erase the code. Hopefully I'll find the solution shortly....

You do not need SD to reset the code. Any independent shop with a half *** scanner can do it. I have star and a snap on scanner. I use the snap on 99% of the time. The snap on will clear it. I also believe the I carsoft MB will do it. For $190 that is what i recommend most MB owners by. It does allot.

I got my Carsoft working nicely and did a full diagnosis. It revealed two 'red' codes, one was of course related to the P0715. Erased everything and the vehicle shifts up and down the gears just like in soft butter. ATF measured and completed and she's ready to roll.
