COMAND update and Nav position

To all who had the latest 43/03 COMAND updates installed on their cars that also have the Navigation, does it fix the problem where the position of the car is shows as being about 50 feet off from where it should be?

Just used it last night for some guidance, and as I got to intersections, the Nav would still show 50 feet left, even though I was just about to make the turn. This would mean that it would tell me to make the turn that much later.

I have this exact problem, the Nav is almost useless as a result especially in downtown and other areas, where multiple streets come right up on top of each other, you can't figure out which one it actually is telling you to turn on.

Hi,

I thought I had the same problem that you're describing, but I found out that it's a calibration issue.

I know your system is different than mine, since yours is DVD based and mine is CD based, but I'm sure both have a calibration feature.

Go to Settings and find current position. The system will ask you to tell it where you are (street) and the upcoming street. It will also ask you how far ahead the upcoming street is (10 yards, 20 yards, etc).

Tell it where you are and I'm sure this problem will go away. If you have trouble finding how to calibrate your system go to the dealer, they should be able to show you how to do it.

I hope this solves your issue.

I haven't seen this calibration feature on the W/S211. This is what DC says:

All navigation systems mentioned here (W211/S211) are self-calibrating by continously comparing distances travelled with their map data, and correcting any differences.

My navigation is also perfectly calibrated. Going to upgrade during my next service. My tire pressure monitoring system is malfunctioning....wonder if the upgrade will help that?

Strange thing about the nav for me was that for the first two or three months, it was perfect as you describe, but then suddenly went out of whack and hasn't come back since. When it first went out of whack, it was more like 500 feet off from where it should be, pulled the COMAND fuses, and then it shifted to the current 50 foot difference.

Hi Jef
What appears to be the problem with your tyre monitor?

I have a Pioneer DVD Navigation system in my van which is about 50ft out in its calculations and so far I have not discovered a way of calibrating it. The COMAND system is though in our S211 is 'spot on'

Bye for now,
John

50' never really mattered to me, but because of this discussion, i paid close attention to this in my car. i found that one night, it was about 50' off from the actual location. the next morning the nav was spot on again. something must have recalibrated overnight for it to be accurate the next morning. i did nothing manually to correct the problem, so it must have been automatic. good luck to u all.
