Transmission not shifting - then it does
Newly purchased 2008 E350 4matic Wagon 179K miles one owner always dealer maintained until 145K. First drive out on the highway I notice that at 55 MPH the engine RPM is up at around 3000. It's clearly not shifting up through the gears properly. I pulled over to turn around and head back home. While stopped I tried to manually "shift" through the drive gears with the shifter and it just stayed in "D" as indicated on the dash. When I arrived back in my driveway I shut the ignition off, then restarted the car. The gears would then manually shift 1,2,3,4,D sitting still. I drove the car again and it shifted through the gears normally. 2200 RPM's + or - @ 55 MPH. I drove the car to my office, about 25 miles. I stopped at intersections and accelerated and all was normal in shifting.
One more thing - on that first drive, before entering the highway at around 30 MPH I did notice a bump, like a hard shift that I think was on a slight acceleration.
Any wisdom on what happened? Thanks in advance~!
