Snow Driving (ESP)

I had some snow here yesterday so I decided to try out the cars esp.

It is pretty awesome
I took a few turn hard to let the "car fish tail" and the system instantly knows this and applies brakes to one of the wheels and the car stops sliding. Great saftey feature!

MOA4R,

What kind of tires do you have on your car? I put Dunlop M2 winter tires on my car, and I thought it did very well in what snow we have had in the DC area this winter.

We don't get much snow, but the local MB club had a grass gymkhana (don't know the US term for this, but it's where you set up markers on a big grass area and race around it).

The other cars were wheelspinning, sliding and throwing up huge amounts of mud and grass.

The E320 CDI with traction control on drove around sedately with the accelerator to the floor but only running at about idle. It was one of the weirdest driving experiences I have had. The time was slower than most of the others, but it was certainly a lot more elegant.

I had no problems is Chicago this winter with the all season Dunlops. We had no really big snows. Slipped a little going down the alley with 5 or 6 inches but the car straightened right out. Of course, I don't try to go racing down unplowed streets either.

ha ha funny you ask, at first I was running michelin pilot sports, which made the car literally useless in the snow, then I went back to the stock wheel and tire setup, which worked a little better, but I still had problems in what little snow we did get in the DC area. I'm sure snow tires would make a huge difference, unfourtunately, I didn't get a chance to pick up a set this year.

I wasnt actually saying the car was good in the snow because it wasnt that great. What I was commenting on was the fact that when I did push it in the corners to make it spin out The car wouldnt let me...IDIOT Proof

I have all season tires. Compared to my 2000 S430 and wife's 2000 E320 wagon my 211 is great in the snow. There is a huge improvement in the esp tech in my car. If you are not hanging well in the snow is it the tires?
