External oil filter for 722.9 7G-tronic 7-sp

Have any of you considered or actually installed external oil filter on these?

  • What type & how many micron filter did you use?
  • Where did you install it?
  • Was it worth the effort?

I was thinking about it after changing ATF filter on my Ford Truck.
You can't go wrong with a filter if you install it right and here is where the problem is.
On my Ford it is installed on the line going to radiator. I assume the housing has a pressure valve that will open bypass in case the filter clog, but did not go that far to check.
The filter is popularly called "toilet paper roll" as this is how the element look like.
Doubt it has microns rating, but was pretty black when I was replacing it. Most likely clutch dust.

My F350 is used only for RV use so it's not getting many miles and it's hard to tell the benefit so far.

The W211 will get about 1000 miles per week so any benefit should show up in less than one year!

Anyway, I was just checking if anyone had installed one on W211 and get feedback.

At least 3 of the cars I sold with 5G transmissions are around or over 300k without major work on them.
My 7G is at 171k right now and I confirmed it had service done at 40k.
I am thinking about doing pan drop service before 200k and maybe next one at 300k.
Since I am not planning to put high miles on the car, that is going to take me a while.
Than I might worry about filter
