Hello,

I'm a new member and hope my question conforms to MBWorld's protocols.

While I allow some time for warming up on cold morning starts (Canada), my '05 E320 CDI with 112,000 miles on it, the transmission appears to want more warm up time. The symptoms are as if the car pulls away in third gear, although I'm pretty sure it's in first gear, keeping the engine rpm's high (well higher than normal). Once it warms up (and not yet at normal operating temp), it's absolutely fine.

So I'm wondering whether it's possible for the transmission oil to be on the low(er) side and if so, how does one check the transmission fluid level?

I thank you all in advance for any ideas/thoughts/feedback.

Welcome. Do you know if the transmission oil has ever been changed. If it has not the filter may be clogged from the old oil. The first thing I would do is have it drained and replace the filter in it. Hope that helps.

I purchased the car with 88,500 miles on it and immediately did a full service to include changing the transmission oil and filter. I do realize that the type of transmission oil change that was done did not drain 100% of the oil out.
Is there a way to check the oil level?

I am sorry I have no idea. On the old cars you could just check the dip stick but on these cars I have no idea hopefully someone know how to check the level. If you know how many quarts you put in you can google how many quarts are in your cars transmission. That may help you

ABS Wheel Speed Sensor
 
Hello All,

Wanted to share my experience with my '05 W211 CDI. One year ago I had a rear ABS wheel speed sensor failure resulting in the loss of ABS, ESP, cruise control and the power steering going in to limp mode losing full power steering.

The cost for an OEM replacement from MB is $253 (CDN) so I decided to experiment and purchased an aftermarket sensor from PEX, an alleged German manufacture. So the first one didn't work at all. Second one worked but read the wheel spin in reverse. PEX then sent me a third one which worked for nominally one year and just under twelve thousand miles. I received a fourth one (at no charge) and it didn't work at all!

So while both the supplier from whom I bought the part and PEX were excellent to deal with, I would certainly classify the PEX product as absolute junk.

I am going to experiment further (I know) and pick up a Febi Bilstein ABS wheel speed sensor today. I'll keep y'all posted.
