Light switch

Does my 07 w211 have some kind of light switch other than the one in the car and ballast? My car is acting very odd and all the wires at the back of the headlights and fog and fine and also put in a new switch in the car.

Have you checked the operator manual?

Beginning on page 121 (for 2008 year model) it explains how the automatic mode works and also how to program the "Daylight running lamp mode"

Ok here it goes, my right side small light next to the high beam bulb goes from 6v to 12v fast but mostly stays at 6v. When I turn the headlight switch to the far left to turn on one side, the drivers side is fine but the passenger side if freaky. The bottom driving light come one instead of the normal light and it is only 6v. The driving lights work fine when in the normal position so this is freaking me out. So to recap, the daytime running light(pass side) flashes from 6v to12v but stays on 6v and the far end parking lights only works on the left side and the right side the bottom light goes to half brightness. Here is what I have done do far. Replaced the main switch, removed the front bumper to check all of the wiring and all is ok. WTF!!!!! I hope it makes sense.

How do you know the voltage is fluctuating like that? What are you using to test? STAR/DAS? Have you tried the simple fix of replacing both bulbs at the same time?

I have done that. I put a volt meter and the right side daytime light is at 7v and then jumps to 12v in a split second and then stays at 7v. The left side daytime light is 12v. The fog light gets 12v when I switch them on but then when I use the far right switch to turn on just 1 side of parking lights, the left side daytime light works but then I turn the other side on and the right fog goes on and it is at 7v. This has to be the craziest wiring problem ever. Like I said, I took the whole front bumper off to look at all the wiring and everything is in tacked and factory.

Sounds like the computer module that controls the lights is on the fritz. I would expect it to throw a code if that's the case.

Thanks for the reply. There aren't any codes. At least on the dash. Would it come up on my obdII reader?

Try it. Probably not. You can get it diagnosed, or jump on ebay and start throwing parts at it. You might guess it right the first time.

If there were any codes, you'd need an MB specific code reader. It will display codes that an OBDII reader won't pick up as those are basically just engine and emissions codes. Or take it to the dealer to get it scanned. If you're not in a rush, get an X431 Launch Easy Diag Plus, I've mentioned it in other posts, does MB specific codes and probably one of the cheapest out there around $60 or so on Ebay/Aliexpress. There's a few other ones out there too that do more or are the same thing, but they range in price from $100-$200 and then you can go as far as a knock off Star Diagnostic system which can range from $400-$1000.

Thanks fro the great info, Where is this light module located and is there a way to test it? I will look into these diagnostic systems. I have a pretty good one that does more than just engine and emissions but not sure of the rest.
