Looking at a used E350 key to the cure- questions

Hey all. Interested in possible purchasing a 2007 e350 key to the cure edition. Car has 205k on it- this will be a daily so I'm not too worried. I currently have an 15' is250 F sport and a 2011 G37 coupe, which is currently in the process of being totaled out through insurance. Like I said this would be another daily and something different to drive.

Back in 2012 I had a 2009 c300 sport which I loved for the look and reliability it was cpo with only 20k on it so pretty new. I sold it after 9 months for something more optioned.

Here I am not interested in this e350 in black with light parchment interior. I'm worried for the future maintained 205k is crazy high but curious as to how long this will last me without actually dying on me. Seller is letting the car go for $5600 for the following reasons (message from him directly) Currently, the check engine and ESP lights are both on, the car is currently in "limp mode" which means it drives only in second gear, upto 40 MPH. I had the car diagnosed thoroughly, the transmission itself is in good condition according to two different mechanics however it needs a new Transmission Valve Body. The estimated repair is around $1000-$1500 which is why I am offering this car less than book value.

Any thoughts?

I am inclined to agree, although valuation matters are things I usually stay out of. 205 K is a lot of miles. My 2007 E350 has about 170K on it, and I would be delighted to get $5,600 for it if offered. With a car having that mileage, even assuming good condition, I would have expected the asking price to at least start with a 4.

The cost on the repair is not out of line in my experience (and I have had the valve body repair done). I am not sure I understand the limp mode aspect of things-my valve body issue never got to that level.

^ agree with all. Don't know in your neck of the woods but here in SoCal, an '07 designo edition with that mileage is worth $4,800 in good condition, $4,200 in fair condition and $1,700 - $3,600 trade-in value. With the issues you describe it has, you should be paying much less for it. Might turn out to be a great project & can go for quite a few more years, but the asking price seems a bit much.

On the east coast, New Jersey. I find cars being priced much higher here. If the car was 3000 I'd take it.

Sounds like I should stay away from this one.

If you really like the car, print out the Kelly Blue Book values and show them to the owner - then negotiate what is acceptable to you.
