keyless go button on shifter intermitent shut off

About a week ago I started experiencing something very odd. The keyless go button the shifter always starts the car, but sometimes I have to hit it several times to shut the car off. So far today I've started it twice and shut it down twice. Both shut down times I had to hit the button 5 times before it shut off. It seems to be getting worse, but it always starts the car with 1 push.

Check the stickie up top, broken wire in the shifter, a common problem. Sounds like it's starting to go. You can always stick the key in the ignition to shut it off.

I am aware of the issue, I assumed it was a works or doesn't work at all scenario, not a sometimes doesn't work shutting off thing. I'll check it out, thanks.

When I looked at it, the shrink wrap was broken but the wire was not visible through the insulation. I barely touched the wire and it broke in half.

The cause of the problem is :::drum roll::: the use of aluminum wire! We know the solution, but the reason the problem is a problem is because aluminum wire fatigues much easier than copper, so a repetitive movement does wear through the insulation, but the wire fatigue is what does it in.

Problem solved though, wasn't as bad as it could be, certainly considering it cost me nothing but a little bit of time.
