W211 made in 2001???
I have a question of my W211 E320 VIN,
the 10th digit of vin is showing the year of made,
but I got the digit is 1,
which mean that my car is made in 2001???
But W211 is start at 2003.
So is my vin is wrong??

I don't have the Secret Decoder Ring for interpreting VIN cryptograms, but if you want to know the date and month of your car's manufacture, just look at the plate fastened to the driver's door frame. W211 production started in 2002. My 2003 model has a build month of 9/2002, according to the door plate. Some W211s may have been built a few months earlier than that.

Where abouts in the world are you? I know for sure that the 10th character date code does not apply to UK models.

I've check in the vin on analogx,
according to the vin,
it said that is made in 2001.
and the plate i find on the car,
it only display the vin & weight of the car,
nothing more.
BTW I'm not in US,
is the vin has other decording outside US?

interesting, if the 10th digit is a 1 that means its a 2001... at least in the US. I think its like that everywhere else too?

US VINnumbers are completely different compared to the regular MB VINnumbers...the only digits that are the same on bth numbers are the last 6 or 7 digits in both numbers...

As stated previously, it does not apply to UK models. Not too sure about other non-US markets.

It doesn't apply to Taiwan model too
My E240 also has "1" in the 10th digit.
However, if you check your option list , there must be a option code "803" .
This option code means "change of model year, the last figure shows the new model year"
therefore 803 means 2003 model year and 804 means 2004 model year, so on..
