Question E320CDI brakes question

Had the brake pads and rotors replaced about six months ago. Squeaking happens when almost to a stop (under 5 mph). Took it to the dealer to have diagnosed. They said that the brake pads my indy put on are after-market and that they are a hair smaller than the genuine MB brakes. Is this legit? Did my indy maybe put brakes on the car that were made for a gasser and maybe the diesel needs a hair different brake pads? I was thinking about just going to the dealer and getting the genuines and having them replaced by my indy. I am asking because I have no experience and don't have a clue about brakes on these cars. I do know that I had a Lexus where they put after-markets on and had issues. Once replaced with the genuine pads, all issues went away. Does anyone have an opinion on which way I should go? I love my CDI. It has 58,000 miles on it. It's a 2005. Thank you

Brake pads are very tightly controlled by the OEM's for stopping, noise, reliability, etc. Aftermarket manufacturers have a different set of specs (like wear and soot). Aftermarket pads may wear discs out faster, make more noise, and not stop as well but are usually cheaper.

IMHO, brake pads are items I would only get from a dealer. If you're broke, or want to race, or have other reasons, maybe your decision is different. I've replaced the aftermarket pads on my daughters (used) car with OEM pads.

Thanks, Peter. That's what I will do then, just get the MB pads and have them replace the after-markets. I told them NOT to use after-markets because of my past experiences. Otherwise, they are good mechanics.

Yes, you will also find that the OEM pads come with nicer squeal shims, wear sensors, and lub if needed.
