pulling the trigger this week. buying a e500 wag
the w211 doesnt appear all that different from the w210. a little dressier interior and a sleeker exterior. a little more power but the same 722.6 transmission....
this car had been on the lot for a while and was a solid 40.
...well from 40ft it look stunning. closer inspection shows some wear and tear. the usual paint chipping from around the fuel filler, some paint chips on the leading edge of the front doors, hazing of the headlight lenses, and some paint chips from under the rear glass. although im not sure how that came to be... maybe ice and dirt chattering away on the paint in these michigan winters. the biggest glaring issue is after a couple days the rear begins its decent to earth, but quickly resumes its height when fired up. no stored codes and no service reminders yet.
interior id put at nearly 9/10. the previous owner(s) did their due diligence in keeping it up to snuff. only faults inside are in the back. a busted handle for the floor storage area cover. ive sourced a replacement for it.
ill throw up some pics when i get it home.
values for this thing were all over the place. anywhere from 6,750 to 9,750. i managed to get it for 7,300. they were asking 8,500 i think. i used the suspension issue to get the price down. this is my first used car so i feel i did alright on the negotiation.
it was a tough decision, not a couple miles away was an e55 sedan. but after looking at it, my decision was made very easy. the e55 was rough for the amount they were asking. missing buttons, broken rear shade, service e overdue.....
ill keep digging through the threads here but feel free to chime in with some advice. what do i need to know on troubleshooting the suspension? ill replace the pair when i get to it when the weather warms.i see arnot makes replacement suspension parts and i saw some bilsteins for sale too, but i dont know how to cross shop part numbers....
ill also toss on some performance rotors and pads, and throw on some new tires. i hope this is the extent of the maintenance for the foreseeable future.
once again, thank you all
as for the factory head unit... it has the 6 disc and the voice activated stuff. probably dont want to start messing with that.
