replacing bulb in 2003 e500

I'm having issues replacing my passaenger side low beam bulb in my 2003 e500. Under the hood I removed the rubber/cover .. twisted and removed what looks like a ballast with a 3 or 4 pin connector to it .. I assumed the bulb would be connected to that but it wasn't, I tried pulling the bulb to no avail. Do i just need to pull harder or twist a certain direction? I'll attach pictures of the black box that I'm assuming is a ballast. All the DIY pictures and vids didn't show this.. they showed a bulb that pulls out. ANy help would be appreciated.

You got the igniter out, but bulb is attached inside. To remove, squeeze retaining clamps toward center and this would release bulb.

Check out Figure 10 in the following.
