ESP ON after wheel change

Well i did my wheel change from 19's to 18's because i have a 4matic and due to clunking in the rear wanted to go back to stock size. Problem fixed meaning clunking car runs and drives great no issues but right after the wheel swap the ESP light comes on. Again car drives great just the light is on. Ive tried reseting it by using a 15 dollar handheld code reader but says its failed reseting, I turned car on turned steering wheel left and all the way right and didnt work. I know disconnecting the battery wont work either so i didnt bother. So im at a loss car runs great, esp turns on right after wheel swap. Nothing else other then wheels where swapped and touched i watched the entire process.

Either a speed sensor on the wheel was disturbed or the diameter of the new tires/wheels is different from the old tires/wheels. If the second, the difference in rotational velocity is interpreted as a spinning tire with loss of traction. Use a tire size calculator to determine if the new diameter is the same as the old diameter.

Get a better code reader. Seriously. Lots of posts on ones that will work on the car.

Thanks for the reply, the rims and tires are exact size to what they came from factory. I had 19x9's for months and had no esp light on issues i decided to go back to stock size so i dont damage my car due to runnung bigger diameter rims and tires. So the ones i have on the car now are factory specs. I watched the guy the entire time and he touched nothing at all other then the rims. He did a good job swapping them out.

Yeah, get the car scanned. ESP faults can be due to the steering angle sensor, yaw sensor or wheel speed sensor. As the guy messed with your wheels the most likely explanation is that he knocked a sensor wire loose or something.
