Rest Feature

Does anyone use this?

IS it a serious drain on the electrical system to use it frequently? I called MBUSA and the solar roof runs the fans automatically on a very low setting after 2 minutes. The "REST" feature is the on you initiate when pushing the REST button on the Climate control panel after you turn off the car.

MB - Tele_aid Rep was not real sure how this feature is draining on the electrics but was sure the solar roof is not providing the power, just the battery.

Has anyone used this feature and had any "dead Batteries" or similar experiances?

Thanks in advance.

The manual states that it cuts off if battery power starts to be drained beyond a certain point.

I have used the REST feature on my MB vehicles since 1994 never a problem. I usually get about 48 months out of a battery...

I actually use this feature often. I'm not sure that you have the same problem in San Antonio but here in Cleveland the weather sucks 8 months a year. This works great to keep the car warm when I run in for a cup of coffee or make short stops. As I recall the REST is not for keeping the car cool in hot weather. Also, I'm pretty sure it automatically cuts out after a pre programed amount of time. 1/2 hr. as I recall. Finally, I'm not as in to the tech of my car as alot of other well informed members on these boards but I also remember my dealer telling me the w211 has enough battery reserve to keep all electrical systems going for many hrs.

Rest

I like this feature and use it fairly often. No problems with it.

My understanding is that if you DON'T have the solar panel option, then the REST button will run from excess charge that is built on the battery while the car was running. It will typically run for 15-30 minutes and shut off.

But I have the solar panel option, and my understanding is that the REST mode will remain running on the solar power from the cells as long as the interior is hotter than the external temp.

Last couple of days in Austin, TX have been in the 80's and I have the panoramic roof and typically leave the shade open all the time (it's a pain to close it everytime you exit the car). When I go to lunch and get back in the car 45min - 1 hr later, the system is venting air like the REST mode. Car is a little warmer inside, but no where close to the boiling interior you would expect on a sunny day with the sunshade open for 1hr.

I'm looking forward to see how well this continues to work as the temps get into the 90's & 100's.

I think the solar is independant of the REST feature. The REST is intended to keep your car warm inside (from the heat of the engine) on cold days.

The solar ventalation removes hot air from inside your car (while parked in the sun) thus, keeping your car cooler inside.

My understanding is the solar ventalation is totally automatic. No need to push anything.

Yes, no need to do anything for solar, I guess I was confused, because I thought the REST was for cooling also...

Ok I think I am clear on this- The "sister: feature to the Solar roof cooling and the AV Seats is the use of the "summer feature". This opens all the windows and the pano, but also initiates the AV Seat ( driver only) and this makes the car very bearable quickly on a hot day.
