Side marker question

So, Both bulbs burnt after torrential rain a month ago. Replaced them both and they appear to now work. Dumb question....are these markers supposed to blink with the directional turn signals? Or are the constantly luminated? Thanks in advance.

They should not blink. To my knowledge you can't code them to do that either. I'd have to check DAS when do some things to the car shortly but, they are constantly on when you have your park lights on and headlights on.

No, I've never seen them blink before. Is your E350 Euro-Spec or US-Spec? I find the US-Spec side markers annoying because they're an awful amber color that stands out.

If you just changed the bulbs, they're going to burn out again next time it rains. How do I know that? because I was replacing them every time I drove in the rain.

The problem is that the sidemarker housings develop cracks on the backside due to the heat. Water gets in and burns out the bulbs (see pic above).

Best to replace the sidemarkers. If you do, I'll give you a tip: crawl underneath the car and pinch the expansion feet with some pliers and push them out from the back side of the bumper. I left some nasty gouges on my impact strips trying to pry them out to no avail.
