Keyless Go "Key Not Detected"

Over the course of the past couple of months I've noticed the keyless go feature becoming intermittent. Initially, maybe 1 in 10 attempts to start the car with the button on the shifter would fail and I'd get the "Key Not Detected" message on the center display. The problem became more and more frequent until last week when the car will not start at all with the shifter button. When the problem first started, pressing a button on the keyfob and trying the shifter button a second time seemed to work, but it doesn't anymore.

The message displayed in the cluster alternates between "Key detected in vehicle" and "Key not recognized".

The remote lock, unlock, and trunk release functions all work fine.

On my keyring I also have an RFID keyfob for access to a building and six regular keys. I have another RFID passcard with me as well. Could these interfere with the keyless go functionality? The RFID keyfob has been on the same keyring since day one, before I ever had a problem. I did test with these items outside the vehicle and it didn't make a difference.

The problem occurs with both keyfobs, and I tested this with only one fob near the car at a time. I replaced the batteries in both keys today, and while the range for the remote lock/unlock has greatly improved the keyless go still does not work.

Last week I had some liquid spilled in the trunk, and the trunk carpeting steam cleaned by a professional detailer. Are there any parts of the keyless go system under the floor in the trunk?

Well, Sunday I hit the shifter button out of habit, and the car started right up. It's worked fine for me all week, Probably 12 starts with no issue. Very strange...

Did you go to the MB dealer? As mentioned earlier, it needs to be properly diagnosed. The problem is that the it might cost more than you want to pay. In the US, a new keyless go key is in the $500 range. If there's a bad antenna or some other part of the system, then it would be even more on top of that. Maybe the dealer felt that you probably didn't want to pay 1-2k to fix the problem. Did you try the other key?

You can check rear KG module and trunk antenna for moisture/corrosion but for definitive diagnose as mentioned have someone pull fault codes using MB DAS (diagnostics). See attachment for a better understanding of KG.

Wow, I forgot all about this thread. I never did figure out what the problem is, although it only ever happens in cold weather (below -10c). I never had any problem with the Keyless GO system all summer, or on milder days this winter. Only on really cold days, and usually only the first start of the day did it give me any trouble. Occasionally, I'll get a message saying "Change Key Battery" after a successful start, again this is tied to the cold weather. The batteries in both keys were replaced last winter with new batteries from the MB parts counter. Not that that means anything, they could have been sitting around for a long time before I bought them.

Hi everyone,
I am new to this forum, my recent experience with Key less go on my 2015 Mercedes c 250 went like this. Key less go stopped working on both keys at the same time checked key batteries, this did not fix the problem. I located the fuse for the Key less go module in the boot from a fuse diagram and removed the fuse to check if it was ok, the fuse was ok, I then reinserted the fuse and everything started working as it should.

Keyless go stopped working w215 after changed car battery

everything worked fine on my Mercedes W-2 15, after changing the vehicles battery, everything started fine but when tried to use key less go, I pushed the button on the shifter and it said key not recognized. I played with it a few times put the key in the ignition from the key fob, and somehow got it to work once. Came out the next day and tried keyless go by pushing the button on my shifter and again it said key not recognized, anybody know if the key card needs to be reprogrammed after changing out the vehicles battery. PS key fob works perfectly fine, Starts fine with key fob in ignition.
