Question Knock Sensors

I will be doing an intake manifold replacement and some have suggested replacing the Knock sensors while I am in there.

Maybe the Quality Engineer in me is coming out, but:

If these parts rarely fail, I think it is safer to leave in a set of 10 year/140K miles "pretested" sensors, rather than risk an "Early Life Failure" of an untested new part.

On the other hand, if these are parts many people have found to fail sometime prior to 200K miles and 15 years, it is probably worth changing them out as if they are "wear parts".

Thoughts?

I'm just a very recent W211 owner, but if its any comfort, the knock sensors in the M119 V8 of my W124 are original, have gone 249,000 miles/23 years without issue and it is an 11/1 compression engine. Still, were I you, would probably replace them. Don

I have done a few searches and they seem to be a very low failure part, so I am probably going to tempt fate and not replace them.

In general, unless a part has a history of failure, I trust "time tested" over risking an "early life failure".
