Have dealer do a VMI. To find out service history done at any Mercedes Dealer. You could also do a car fax. It may pick-up service/repair work done at other shops, but if owner did his own work??

In order to get the VMI from the dealer, you need to schedule service with them and ask for it in person. If they won't give it to you, find another dealer that will. There's also some $100 off $200 service coupon out there good til the end of May.

Here in Salem, OR dealer charges about $400 for a transmission service versus an indy I use in Portland charged $247 for our S430 a couple years ago. Dealer here would charge around $200 for brake fluid change. Maybe use the coupon for a service "A" and ask for the VMI?

Have you left a voice mail that you just have a question about when the fluid was last changed? I could see them dodging your calls if you're leaving ones just saying you need to know something. They might think something went bad and you're pissed.

Nice. Ecstuning sells a small half ounce container of the correct MB grease for about $10.

Search the old threads, no need to drill a hole. You basically disconnect one of the transmission lines. I think there's a write up in the DIY section and also there's a youtube video on someone doing it. Did you get the fluid from a Shell distributor? It's usually a little over $5 a quart as opposed to the $20+ the dealer might want.

Can't remember if the E500 transmission is the same as the E320/E350. There's lots of info about those cars. It might be similar, I think usually when there's issue, people also end up replacing the connector or the conductor plate. The connector is much cheaper than the conductor plate. It usually ends up getting coated with too much transmission fluid which causes it to fail.

Here Zack, this should help: https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...tor-plate.html

Your English is better than my____________ fill in the blank. I read a bit of German, Latin & Greek but would be in over my head if I tried to speak. Don
