Blurry radio screen around outer edges/Repair?

I recently purchased a E320 2005 and around the radio screen edges it has a rough texture about 1/2 to 3/4. It's rough across the top and down both sides. Bottom is smooth and looks fine. When the car is off you can see and feel the rough screen. When radio is on it's not as bad. Any ideas what caused this? Has anyone changed out a damaged screen with another radio screen or had one repaired. Thanks for any advise on this.

What you are probably seeing is where the non-reflective coating has worn off. That is very common. Some people remove the rest of the coating (there are kits to do that-essentially you just polish the rest off). After that, some attach a replacement shield, some don't and just leave it polished without the coating.

If you do a search here regarding the non-reflective coating or scratches on the screen, you should get some hits.

Jimbo1763 thanks for the reply. You were correct about the coating and that was the problem. It was rough around the outer edges of the screen. I picked at it and it started to peel off in very small pieces. It seems to be brittle and brakes off in small pieces. It's a pain getting it off. Thanks again for your help.
