08 E63 New Owner

I recently purchased an 08 E63 knowing that the car had 3 issues according to the Mercedes inspection. The dealer I got the car from repaired 1 of the issues, a leaking front strut. The other 2 issues have not been repaired.

1. The passenger seat will go every direction but will not go all the way back, it stops halfway. I'm assuming a coin may be stuck in the track? I do not hear a binding noise that would indicate this though. In the event that this isn't the case does anyone have any suggestions?

2. The rear seat head rest light says that they have not been secured but clearly they have been, I cannot push them back by hand indicated that the locking mechanism hasn't latched. Any suggestions with this?

I went ahead and ordered all of the service manuals for the car and a few other misc items such as a rear tire as the tire was eaten up by the front strut being bad causing the car to ride funny. The car is mint otherwise, clean carfax, clean dealer history with a decent amount of service info. The car does not making any weird noises and runs very smooth. The only thing that caught my attention driving wise was how slow the transmission reacts to down shifts but everything I read said that this was normal. I plan on putting a tune on it, exhaust, headers and a different set of AMG rims and that's really it.

Anyway, any advice is greatly appreciated!

-Chris

The transmission in these cars is slow and clunky. It's the one thing I hate about them.

Have you tried doing a search? There's a lot of info on this site.

Is this the wagon or the sedan? given you are getting a message about the rear seat not being secured, I'm going to assume it's the wagon. If so, the passenger seat not moving back is the car working as designed. When the back seat starts to be put down, the car automatically moves the front seat forward to make room for it. If for some reason the car is not recognizing the seat getting latched back in place, the car won't let you move the front passenger seat back any further.

Try this, before you put the rear seat back in place, pull the release button a second time (this will adjust the angle at which the seat latches). you'll hear a slide as the mechanism drops down. then let the seat go into place and test moving the passenger seat back.

I'm basing this on my experience with a non-amg wagon, so take this all with a grain of salt.

It's a sedan but even then, this makes perfect sense. I'll have to check it once I get the car. The dealer is still repairing the air strut.

I'm also keeping an eye out for w212's as well, 2010~2011 in the event that they A - take entirely to long to repair the strut or B - The dealer finds more damaged items and refuse to repair them

Welp, ended up not getting the car as the sales staff STILL had not turned the car in to have the air strut repaired despite them telling me that they had already repaired it. The sales staff also whimpered and cried when I requested that they take it to Mercedes to have it inspected, 2nd red flag.

I ended up getting an 09 instead with a long well documented service history with 0 issues.

Was it the E63? They had a history of head bolt problems til about 2011 so you shouldn't go too crazy with tunes and headers.

Yes, it was. I plan on replacing the head bolts asap on the 09 I just bought to eliminate the fear of that in the future.
