hey guys,

so I found a 350 that I really like but having read a lot about the problem with the balance shaft, I'm concerned. It's a 1 owner car. Here's a link to the Ad and here's also the vin. Any help or thoughts you may have I would greatly appreciate!!

I know there's a way to look up the engine number etc. but hoping someone has some more expertise than I do.

There's no need to look up the engine number. All 2006 had the balance shaft problem and they also had SBC brakes which can be a 2k repair. With that kind of mileage, if it hasn't been replaced, it can need it at any time. Shoot for 2007+, that had the facelife which I think is a nicer interior and got rid of SBC brakes. Some early 2007 also had the balance shaft problem so you still need to check the engine number on the VIN. Cars basically made before September had the problem and the updated parts was sometime after September.

I'd avoid the 03-06 models unless you're going for an E55.

Engine # 30 053296 is within affected range clean point as of 30 468993 you can have MB dealer check vehicle master inquiry (VMI) to see if balance shaft was repaired.

There is a reason why those cars sell co cheap.
Try to buy the same year/mileage Bluetec and you will have a chance to figure it out.

SBC sint a 2k repair anymore. maybe in 2005.

1000 $ in 2017 for a new pump with labour 75 dollar.
