Bizarre malfunction with E500 any ideas?
I decided to sell one of my two e class cars. I just put a fuel pump in the 2004 E 500 (Thank you to forum members who helped). It was running beautifully, and a had a buyer counting out money to give me. When all of a sudden it totally cut ff. stopped running and went dark, as if the battery were disconnected. Key would not even turn in ignition. No power what so ever. I did however think I heard a faint humming noise coming from the engine compartment. It was day time however and too noisy to tell.
Tonight when I got home, the passenger side head light was on. The car however still exhibited a no power state as it did earlier in the day. Key still would not work, etc. When I opened the hood, I heard the humming noise coming from what appears to be a medium size Bosch black box toward the front of the engine bay. Havent looked it up yet, but looks like a relay maybe only larger than normal size.
The car was running fine when it cut off initially. A few minuted before it did so, I pressed the suspension raise button (adjustable amg sport suspension option). The car did raise up all the way, and in fact is still up. I do not know if this was a coincidence or not. Any ideas? I have no idea what the heck happened. Thanks in advance

With those wheeled computers lot of things can make the same symptoms.
Looks like power module or power relay gave up.
Start with scanning and a case of cold beer.

if power module or relay went wouldnt the car have no power what so ever? Like I said in the post, one headlight was stuck on even though switch was off... and something relay looking was buzzing.
Also, if the car is dark with no power I am guessing the obd port has no power as well. how can i scan the car as such? I have benz diagnostic equipment

Again, with maze of modules and wires we can guess endlessly.
Lights coming with switch off often is bad grounding, but that is statistical diagnosis.
Get good voltmeter and starting with battery, check the ground, follow to rails in fuse boxes and such.
With no power slim chances scanner will work
