Can't get the gear stick into R or P unless I take my foot off the brake pedal!

2003 E500 W211 Mercedes,fine until yesterday when I started the vehicle and was unable to reverse and noticed that when I took my foot off the brake pedal in went into R without any issues...The other thing I noticed is that it goes fine in D but it will not respond to me wanting to use the gears manually as I did before.

you have a bad brake switch or neutral switch as they call it, it's right behind the brake pedal
