2003 model - Stereo stopped working today!

So I was pulling out of the garage and noticed the center display was off. I pressed ON for the stereo and it says "AUDIO ---" in the driver's dash display. The center display is just black.

I thought I would restart and maybe that would fix it. Nothing's been altered or changed on the car. Oh, and now the Eject 6 disk button won't work to lift the panel for access to the CD's.

Any ideas besides taking it in? I gotta hear my beats!

Best,
Kris

verticalflight,

see your dealer and mention "audio gateway" problem.
(replug one of fuse can fix it but why should you fix a mb quality problem.)

Ditto. The symptoms you describe are different from the audio gremlins experienced by many/most drivers of '03 W211s. In my case, the radio or CD would shut down and "reboot" every three minutes. Chances are, though, that your M-B dealer can fix the problem by installing a software patch and/or a new "audio gateway."

Try pulling fuse 6 in the rear compartment, leaving it out for like 30 seconds to a minute, and putting it back in (with the car off, of course). That performs a reset of the audio system, and that may be all that is needed for you, at least temporarily.

Audio gateway problems are well documented, and it is usually due to them overheating.

Thanks guys for the input. I tried fuse 6 and still no workie.

Dealer said it would need to be in the shop for 2 days. Argh!

Kris
