W211 rear diff
My vehicle is a w211 e280 automatic petrol 2005 model, the rear diff is noisy. Trying to get a new one but with where I am it is proving difficult, the one that is there is a2303510005, 3,27 ratio. However I am only getting a2303510005 of different ratios, so my question is, will a rear diff of the same part number but different ratio work on my vehicle without breaking anything else? I am not a mechanic by the way so forgive me if this is a silly question!

IIRC, if a different gear ratio is installed, you must go into the ECU and enter the new gear ratio in lieu of the previous ratio. There were multiple posts on this in the W211 AMG stickie section.

I believe you need not replace the expensive rear differential unless you have destroyed the casing and/or gears. The bearings are replaceable according to a video I saw on YouTube somewhere. Just get the bearings and take it to a drive-line shop. This kit is less than $300 for 2008 & up but you will probably find one for 2003-2007 also... Nothing saying you have to buy a $2500 MB part. I have not done this yet and understand setting the bearing preload is very important. There are other better videos around that show how to do it in a more proper manor. Your pre-load settings may vary depending on model.
