does mercedes not belive in bolts and nuts?

it seems like mercedes doesnt think that people need bolts and nuts
why doesnt online dealership list bolts and nuts on their diagrams like we dont need them or something. or most likely to make any kind of DIY even harder than it is...
is there a place that shows diagrams of what bolts go where?

Hmm.... I searched about 3 internet EPC, then went to the dealer and the screws for my E250 air filter are not listed anywhere. ....
Not that they stay on the car for whole life - you have to unscrew them for service and being back at firewall - dropping them can happen.

I have a BMW motorcycle (2008 R1200RT) and it is the same thing. I cannot even reset the service reminder without going to the dealer. Of course with the right tools anything can be done. For my service reminder and to read specific BMW codes, I have a Hexcode GS-911 device which does just about everything the dealer can do, with the exception of performing software/firmware updates.

does epc allow you to search by specific bolts to find where they go?

this is honestly retarded. I see no reason to make it so complicated. people really should organize to protect their right to work on the car they own.

I don't belive it should be a dealership's choice whether to allow the owner to work on their car or not.
some people chose to take it to the dealer and others like working on cars.
they should at least allow owners access to full service manuals

If you have the part number, of course. There may be more than one answer obviously.

They do ... go here: http://startekinfo.com and subscribe. You're dreaming if you think this should be free.

In addition to Startek, you can actually get the WIS and EPC online. There's many vendors on eBay which sell WIS and EPC plus sometimes a few other things for $10. Then there's also knockoff C3 and C4 systems that get you full access to MB specific codes. Lots of other 3rd party scanners out there that will also do MB specific codes for under $100. The vin decoders out there are great. Wish other manufacturers made as much information easily available to the pubic as MB.

But lot of members link Pelican Parts help side, who has excelent pictorials. Other site is Mercedes Medic.

cetialpha5 can you clarify which info is not easily available from other manufacturers?

all Japanese made cars have service manuals available and pretty much any other info that you wish to have is available to public. most of it can be found for free.
no need to pay extra to see which bolts go where since its all listed in the manual like the one below

Well I was thinking of Ford. They don't really have a vin decoder. I also liked their Taurus SHO but without a vin decoder and everyone just posting generic info, you have no idea what option packages the car really has.

Just like other EPC, this one is not listing the bolts neither.
When you need them for cover #10, you have to shave $160 and buy whole thing.
I eventually found my 2 dropped bolts. I removed the engine belly pan some time after and they were not there, so I assume the spill on the road, but a month later I was removing transmission belly cover and they were there.

Curious. I replaced some parts on my Porsche and asked about the bolts. They were pricey at maybe $1.00 each for an M8 x 25 but came in a little bag, have a built in flange, a special zinc coating, and a blue spot of 'micro encapsulated' (Locktite).

pretty cool,
Peter
