Terminal removal tool. You need it to remove the pins from the connectors without breaking them.
Comes from this kit. https://www.ecstuning.com/b-schwaben...hoC-QsQAvD_BwE |

I believe the factory bluetooth was only for phone calls anyway, no music til W212. Not sure if you can just add the ipod cable. That's what happened after the facelift. Not sure about pre-facelift. The ipod cable provided the power.
Yes, I think the MB Cradle Bluetooth Adaptor is a retrofit and it sits in the console in-between the front seats where the original phone used to be. My iPhone connects to two Bluetooth receivers automatically now - MB PhoneSystem and CarPro Receiver connected to the iPod cable in the glovebox. |

Got the interior cleaned up a bit. Steering wheel was pretty dirty, seats came out great.
Installed a new cup holder as well :) Few things it still needs: New floor mats, old ones were some no name cheap ones. New ball joints, they squeak pretty bad and one is torn. https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...924/9pYvQC.jpg |
So no updates in a while.
I ended up needing a truck for some house projects and I sold the Benz. Made 4K profit, so that helped a bit :) I rebuilt the whole truck, for those interested here is that blog. http://www.silveradosierra.com/under...d-t679577.html I did miss the W211 though. While searching through local craigslist, I saw this sad looking car. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/w9...xqeswsgw=w2400 https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/xQ...DQfz6ANg=w2400 It's a 2007 E550, very nicely optioned. Keyless go Remote Trunk closing Sport Package Heated and Ventilated Seats NAV Unit Rear and Side Blinds Satellite radio Car is a mess though. It was super cheap. I just couldn't let it go. Car has no transmission, previous owner removed it after it failed. Driver side both doors have 20 door dings, will need paint for sure on that side. Interior is beyond filthy, rear seats leather cracked by the head rests. Rest of the seats salvageable. Steering wheel all cracked. It's been sitting on jack stands for over a year. I do love a challenge. The M273 Engine looks to be in good shape, it ran fine before transmission failed. I checked the timing and it has no chain slack, so idler gear is ok. Car came with a brand new radiator still in box and new torque converter. I ordered a used 70k mile transmission from a junk yard for $600. Complete with valve body. Also found a new looking rear seat to replace mine. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/F4...fNWGy1OA=w2400 Here is the car in my garage, ready to be saved :) What a pile of junk HAHAHA. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/v-...tE4JJ0ow=w2400 https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/CT...Xy0VyBQw=w2400 https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/cO...4eFb5Glw=w2400 |

I loved reading your first write up - thank you for all the detail and pictures. |
I, too, love a good challenge. currently resurrecting a CLK55 for $1000. I've come to adore the M113 engine.
I just wish I had more money to do more of these projects.... |
Congrats on the new project! I have a question about your old car though. My E500 has a sliding cup holder center console and I saw yours has a leather version that opened from the center. Is that something I can find to replace mine?

Strigoi, yes mine is exactly that.
|
You would need the older style center console. It can be swapped.
|
Put the car on the lift and hooked up the old valve body temporarily to the car, so I could read the existing EHS and SCN codes.
https://imageshack.com/a/img922/1736/tXcbOF.jpg Got my AVDI connected and was able to read the existing info. I will use AVDI to virginize the new used conductor plate and do SCN coding. https://imageshack.com/a/img921/9288/P4QhN5.jpg https://imageshack.com/a/img922/6726/FT2yZd.jpg New transmission should be here later today or monday. |
New Transmission arrived. 72k miles on it. Looks pretty good.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/0H...53TE0Y9w=w2400 I also found matching rear seats. Mine are wrecked from the sun, leather totally split up top. OLD https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/qM...mdYz4WTw=w2400 NEW https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/ff...QjqlU2Eg=w2400 Will start installing the transmission in the next few days. |
what year did the used trans come out of?
|
2007 CLS
|
As hands on as you are i'm surprised you didn't rebuild existing one. I hate used drivetrain parts. However sometimes you have no choice. I'm going through the same ordeal with a rear end in my truck. wanna convert it to a dana 60 however i'm skeptical of the condition of the ring and pinion in the donor/junkyard E-350 SD....... you've made me feel a little better about it though hahaha. I shall pull the trigger any day now!
|
The old transmission is in pieces. All the drums taken apart and it failed, so no idea if the valve body is faulty or internal transmission parts. I really haven't found any good rebuilders that make them last. Since it has too many unknowns its just easier to get a low mileage used transmission and start from there.
|
wait so which valve body are you going to use?
|
I am using the valve body from the "new" used transmission.
|
that valve body is coded/written to whichever vehicle it came out of. IIRC you cannot wipe it clean, VIN specific.... 722.9 valve bodies are married to whatever vehicle they were in, when initial startup was performed.....
|
unless i'm blind and that's a 722.6 trans.... I do wear glasses haha
|
Sure you can wipe it. You just need the correct hardware and software to do it. You can't use Xentry or Vediamo, those are useless.
AVDI on the other hand can virginize any used conductor plate and let you reuse them as if they were brand new from a dealer or even just copy the existing scn info. If you scroll up, I have screenshots from avdi, you see that bottom right button? It says Make Virgin. Works like a charm. |
WOW, impressed. For the price of the products you can buy 5 new valve bodies hahahaha. Get it how you live though. I can't imagine how many illegal activities are accomplished with this software. The disclaimer is the best part, " We do not approve or accept responsibility for any illegal misuse of our products. " If someone owned a independent shop this would be a golden ticket. It is bizzare to me though how you can tamper with TRP-parts. I wonder why more indy's don't invest in this sorta thing? Seems legit until you get audited. Sorta like the cali people rolling back the clusters and what not then flipping the cars/trucks for 40% more than what they are worth.
:bump: still can't order keys from Abrites but like they say there is a loophole in everything. on that note, I see nothing being done about a cla, gla, gle, gle coupe, b class, glc, AMG GT, 213, 205, or anything new, assuming you'd take it to the dealer anyways, give it time i'm sure. The Bulgarians are smart. they ask that you keep it hush however do not hold themselves liable for any liabilities. Sounds like the American government lmao. |
I have china clone, it only costs like $290, way cheaper than a new valvebody.
|
|
Waiting on a bunch of misc pieces. Few bolts, brackets and other things that are missing, slowing it all down. Less than $100 worth of stuff.
my shopping list lol. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/34...YRoUbNaA=w2400 While i am waiting, tackled the leaking oil cooler. Easy job, 20 minutes and done. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/oY...dNkoMLCg=w2400 |
