Well the V8 will be fun, has real leather instead of MB-Tex plus has the heated and cooled seats. Easier to find them loaded, but there are some base models out there. Only drawback with it is the airmatic system. If the system is original and the mileage is high, expect them to go, they're pricey at the dealer, 1k per corner for parts, but aftermarket is around $500 a corner.

Bigger engine, more maintenance required and higher op cost for replacement parts. As for the 2009 it has a HD solid state Navi.

I'm guessing they're younger since it's a first car. There's nothing inherently wrong with a W211 as a first car, I just don't think a 380+hp E550 is the best choice for one. Maintenance as well. They were $70k cars when new and still have the maintenance to match if you go to a shop or dealer.
My old W210 E55 was putting out less hp and a bit more torque than an E550. You could get in trouble real fast with that car if you turned off the TC and decided to play around.

Even the E350 has plenty of HP for everyday driving, I believe top speed is limited to 155.
