Xenon bulb replacement; very confused?
I had no problem replacing the main D1S xenon bulbs in the main lamp unit.
the difficulty is with the smaller inboard lamps: the upper bulb is a standard H7 bulb (easy to swap out) and is the high beam.
below that lamp, is the low beam/parking lamp?? there is a square housing that appears to have 2 spring clips on each side at
9 and 3 on the clock. the housing also has 2 torx screws. how to access that lower bulb?
I have absolutely no clue what bulb type is used, and no clue how to access the bulb
any help is greatly appreciated.

That is often call the 'city light' bulb. It goes by many descriptions included '5w5'. It is removed by twisting counter clockwise (when oriented at the back of the headlight unit)

the bulb housing that I am referring to has 2 tabs on each side, so I don't
think you can twist off that housing.
perhaps the housings and bulbs are different with the xenon option?

What year is your w211? Facelifted w211’s with factory HIDS came with LED city lights. It’s a module. Non hid units came with just a 194/168 bulb.

NewShockerGuy: car is a late 2007 with P2 package and factory bi-xenons. the picture that you provided shows the unit for the lamp
I am trying to replace. you referred to this as a module? how do I replace this module? do you have a part number? thanks!

So you are saying your LED no longer works? If that's the case I'm almost 100% positive that no MB will source that part. It's either two options. Buy a new headlight or buy a used hid headlight on ebay and bake your light in the oven to remove the lens, then do the same with the other headlight, remove old module and put in new module.. When I was doing a projector retro fit on ours. I happened to source two used headlights on ebay and was able to use the led modules, otherwise I would not have bothered.
The only part number would be that on the back as pictured and that is a Hella part number since they make the headlight. I highly doubt MB would even consider this a dealership replacement part.

Nigel, on the side of that module there are plastic clips at 9 and 3 o'clock. do those clips hold the
module in place? isn't there a bulb or LED on the other side of that housing?
So if that parking lamp goes out, you need to replace the entire assembly???

So those plastic clear clips are the clear piece where the bulb would normally be in a normal non hid headlight assembly. I've circled below in red so hopefully that makes sense. You have to remove the bracket/pcb board and then you can remove that clear clip to remove the lens/clear piece where the bulb would normally be.
The actual LED is on the PCB board labeled in blue. Short of finding out exactly where this is made and or who actually makes it then you could just replace that part. However I'm almost 100% positive no MB dealer or anyone even at MB would be able to source this part separately. They are going to sell you a new headlight light. Note that the reflectors are different as well. So the non HID and the HID headlights use a slightly different pattern. You can see on the left reflector there are two extra vertical lines in the reflector compared to the right one.
Best bet honestly if yours is toast, find a busted headlight on ebay and swap out the reflector/oem module. That's going to be your cheapest and easiest bet. You could always source the LED and solder a new one on but then you are going on the assumption that the driver is fine on the PCB, which it may or may not be...

Need to revive this (slightly) older thread, but it's sort of what I need to take care of fairly quickly. I'll also post this in the AMG thread, but I figured I'd pick your brains here, particularly NewShockerGuy, since you seem to have pretty good experience with these units. I need to replace my passenger side low beam headlight, but the dealership wants $188 for it. Would you consider this to be a good replacement for it?
I'm not sure because the numbers don't quite match up with mine.
I want to be sure before ordering...
Thanks, in advance for any input.

Benzokirk, those Amazon bulbs are the ones I bought for my low beams. (bought a pair) Work perfectly!! Unfortunately, I believe that I need to replace
my module to restore my left low beam function. New bulbs work fine in the RH side, but not the LH.
Confused about replacing the module: AutohausAZ site says I need to have the dealer computer set up the install of the module
https://www.autohausaz.com/pn/HL-2118705585 here is quote from the listing;
"This is NOT a do-it-yourself project! This unit must be installed by MB trained technician and will require factory program update once installed"
would like to swap my LH unit with RH unit to test, but fear that in addition to that not being a good test, upon return to the proper
side I may loose both headlight functions??

I order most of the HID stuff from retrofitsource.com. The above is probably fine but with how easy it is to get knock off fake stuff ESPECIALLY HID/philips, and reading so many reviews stating it's fake, I always order from a place I know sells legit stuff. If you are replacing one bulb replace the other. Always replace HID bulbs in pairs. That way when the other side goes you don't have two different colors due to color shifting/hours on the bulb.
For the ballast above, you simply unscrew and take it off, then put the new one on. You do not need a dealer to do that at all. You do probably have to have the dealer if you do not have STAR to adjust but again it's one of those things I wouldn't think it stores any settings int he actual ballast itself.
I'm sure others can chime in here and give more input on programming.

new info regarding the LED module running lamps found on cars with factory xenon package. it was believed that
these are not available, but they are! here is the part number 211 906 00 36. its about 60. hope this helps someone
with a bad or burnt out unit.

Is the 211 906 00 36 the left or right reflector? And do we have a part number for the other side?
Thanks,

That makes perfect sense! Not sure why I was thinking the other way around...lol That's excellent honestly. Now if someone wants to retrofit or replace a dead one they have the part number! Excellent find. You should post that information in the sticky on the HID thread up top so it's in there as well.
