Determine if balance shaft sprocket replaced?
How might one determine if balance shaft sprocket has been replaced on a w211/272 ? Does a clear recall VIN search on the MBZ sight indicate a repair? Was this officially recalled? Thanks very for any insight/input here.

There are youtube videos that will show you how to check to see if the sprockets are ok or not. There was no recall. If the repair was done at the MB dealer, it will show up on the VMI. But if it was done at an indy shop, they wouldn't have any records of it.

If the above doesn’t reveal any evidence, you would have to remove the front timing cover to check the part number.
