High Engine RPM after first or second stop while engine is cold
I turn on the car. Engine RPM is around 2000, this is normal. then, I wait until it drops to 1000. I start driving.
Let's say I drive 100-200 yards and I come to stop. if I don't stop more than a few seconds, there is no problem.
But, if I stop for 3-5 minutes, when I push the acceleration pedal, engine RPM goes to 3000 and transmission gear stays at 1 for 15 seconds or so.
Then, car changes gears and RPM drops. But, this makes car jump. From then on, everything is normal.
However, if the first stop is short, then this can happen if the second or third stop is in a short distance, engine is still cold and stop is long.
This happens usually first time I drive in the morning. I think it happens more often in the winter then summer. Once this happens in the morning, it does not happen again usually during the day. But, sometimes it can happen if I leave the car for 5 hours and engine cools down. If it happens 2nd time during the day, then RPM does not stay high too long, maybe just for a few seconds.
I am guessing this is related to engine temperature or catalytic convertor. It's more likely computer related.
Is this normal? I doubt it, since I don't think many people would like to drive like this.
I don't think there is a problem with the trasnmission.
What could be the problem and is there any remedy?
