Please help with possible electrical problem

Hello,

I just purchased my 2008 E350 almost 2 months ago and it's been great up until 2 weeks ago.

All of the sudden my comand radio would shut off and then start back up, when this happens i also momentarily lose power to the a/c blower motor, dome lights, map lights. Also sometimes when this happens my dash clock would reset.

Tonight in the dark i also noticed my headlamps would flicker (get dimmer and brighter).

I also noticed that if i shut off the car, remove the key and then open, close, then open the door that fixes/restores power to my radio and other stuff.

Any ideas? Please help. Thank you

How many miles are on your vehicle? To me it sounds like it could be the voltage regulator. If you have over 120k, my bet would be that. It seems the car is lacking voltage at times and shutting down accessories. Since your is a 2008 model, I do not think you have a second small battery that would control the sbc breaking system and accessories.
Good luck!

Hi Mike,
I have 128k on mine. I never thought about it being the voltage regulator because usually when they start to fail i can tell by the lights, they start to flicker/dim.

On my 06 i replaced my voltage regulator because it was showing these symptoms with the lights but not the accessories powering off, I'm guessing the aux battery kept them on?

Anyways, thanks for the suggestion. I'll have the VR tested and i hope that's the problem because it's easy to replace, i already have the experience! LoL

Cheers,
Sami

Got my alternator tested, indeed my VR is bad. I've ordered a new one so hopefully that will remedy my symptoms. Will post results next week.

Problem was not my voltage Regulator!

So today i was going to replace my voltage regulator, i go to disconnect my negative battery terminal, guess what? My terminal is loose!
I am now certain this was the problem.
The damn fools that replaced my transmission last month probably forgot to tighten the terminal.
