STUCK IN FIFTH
proceeded to accelerate to speed but noticed the RPM's going higher and at 55 im doing about 4500 rpm. At this point the tritronic did nothing. I pulled off the freeway and turned off the car and started it back up. Drove away with no issues from that point.
My 2006 E350 has 46000 miles and had the trans service at 38k.

So sorry I made you look at a fing pic of a merc. That's so horrible for you.
I think he means obtaining the codes using a Star diagnostics tool. Codes from the OBDII port are typically items that would affect emissions. I didn't have this problem on the W211, but my B7 Passat acted up once like you are saying and returned to normal after a restart. Perhaps you should disconnect your battery for a little while (30-45 min) to reset the transmission computer. May have just been a glitch. I think 2006 was the last year they had the Sensotronic system, so I think you also have an aux battery to unplug as well.
That would be my first step as I don't own a Star diagnostics tool. I suppose you could always pay to have it done...

Just because your cheap reader won't read transmission codes doesn't mean there are no codes.

With MB you might not get a CEL to show on the dash but I can bet there are stored codes in the system. I have a STAR/DAS system. When I unplugged certain bulbs it registered in the car and stored it. I can actually see if something was done even if there isn't a CEL being shown. What they are talking about is finding someone with a STAR system that can run the diagnostic test which takes about 2 minutes. It will show EVERYTHING that has an alert/code/store error...etc. A lot don't generate a CEL but it can at least give you an idea on what is happening or if there are other issues.
Update your profile with your location and you might find someone near you that has a STAR system that can run the diag for ya. I have done it for many members here that are local to me. Very easy to do and you can find out of it's something that is serious or just something that glitched...etc.

trans issues will certainly throw cel. sometimes they don't. but they certainly are capable. The "ME" sends CAN back and forth to valve body/conductor plate. If either are defective, it's transmitted over can, if the ME doesn't like the message, it will throw a code.
again, is this a 4matic or 722.9.....aka 2wd in a 211 chasis....
