snapped ball joint thread while attempting to replace

Dear Members, while trying to remove my upper ball joint for my 2004 Mercedes E320, I attempted to unscrew the bottom both of the ball joint, which snapped in half. Now I can't get my ball joint separator to remove the upper ball joint. Any recommendations of how I can get the ball joint out for replacement. I thought perhaps a hammer and then piece of metal inserted into the snapped off screw, but I didn't have too much success getting the ball joint loose. So, any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Duke

Do you have the updated upper control arms with the separate ball joint? or are you just installing the same older style 1 piece arm with ball joint? Honestly, the best thing you can do is continue with the hammer and a punch to try and knock it out. You can also take a torch and try to heat the area and then try to hit it out like you have been trying.. If you are replacing the component anyways, just get a bigger hammer.. haha

I have the 1 wiith the separate ball joint. I can do that replacement, it's just getting the ball joint out that's the problem, I like your bigger hammer idea!!

can you get a long 3/8 inch punch and place it/brace it under the broken stud and lower the car on it to put some weight /stress on it -- then get the hammer to it with a little heat -- it should pop

Sucess with removal of upper ball joint

Okay, thanks to advise from a previous member, I got the old ball joint removed and installed the new ball joint (driver's side). Now I just have to replace the motor mounts and transmission mount. Duke
