E55k 4matic?

The E55k sounds great, can't wait.

What I'm curious about is if it will be a 4matic set up with all 4 wheels driven. It seems the current E55 is already seriously limited by the rear wheel grip. Turn off the traction control and see.

Wouldn't the car have a faster launch with all 4 wheels driven? Or does the extra weight compromise the handling too much?

Hey,

I think that all wheel drive should be a more-effective way of putting the torque to the ground but the downside is that you get mechanical losses as well as it's expensive to use a system that is required to handle 500+ ft lb of torque in the new V8 kompressor engines.

Like you said, weight will also be a factor but with 460hp I think the quest for handling outweighs this issue.

Personally I would love to see the new E55 with 4matic!

I don't think Mercedes would make an E55 4 matic simply because they would not be able to sell enough to warranty them perfecting the technology. Most 4matic owners would be satisfied with the E500 engine which already would make this one of the fastest production all-wheel drive cars on the road!
