Odd structure in glove box

Odd structure in glove box
2005 W211 E500 4Matic

On the left side of the glove box is what appears to be a heat sync. I can find no information on it. It's not causing a problem....it's just bugging the hell out of me for not knowing every little thing on this car. I have read that it is a toll token holder more commonly on the Euro-cars. Why the hell a coin holder would be way the hell over there is beyond me. My daughter keeps running her fingers over it and reminding me that I don't know what it is.

Some one chime in so I can stop eating all these tums.

I thought so. Luckily I have a big reach being 6'3". US coins do not like the design.
