Price Increases and ED/Ordered Cars

If your car is an ED, or I believe if it is ordered, it is my understanding the price isn't fixed until the car goes into production?

First, is that true?

Second, if true, has anyone had the price go up after they ordered their car?

We have a September ED E20 CDI ordered, and we are getting pretty worried about the price. The CDI is now $1000 above the '04 E320. If that car goes up the same 2% the options went up for '05, with the CDI go up $1000 or even more to keep pace?

Thanks,

David

You are normally price protected if 1) the MSRP for a model year has been announced and 2) the order actually has been specified as a bona-fide customer order. If there is a subsequent increase, the price label may show the increase but the dealer will do a price adjustment with the factory when he delivers the car to the customer who ordered it. Why don't you just ask your dealer?

I got the question form the ED contract. It talks about the customer being able to refuse a car if the price changes. Subsequently, I was told that the price is locked in when the car goes to production, which also the point you can't make changes.

Although the CDI is an '05, it is $1000 more than the '04 E320 and '05 E320 prices have not been announced. Options went up 2% '04 to '05 based on the CDI. If the E320 also went up 2%. it would be about the same price as the CDI. So...presumably the CDI will also go up 2% (or even more...3-4%) when '05 E-class prices are announced later this month.

So, I am trying to find someone who it actually happened to. Or to find out if someone is contridicting the dealer.

In most markets the diesel variants are priced lower than the gas/petrol ones. It is an anomoly that the in the US the diesel 320 is $1000 more than the gas 320. It has been suspected that once the 2005 prices are announced on the gas E then we may join the rest of the world in not having to pay a premium for the priviledge of driving a diesel. I think it is just as likely that any price increase on the 2005 E's will be limited to the gas engined models as the 2005 diesel's otherwise price increase is already factored into its current price since it is already a 2005.

I certainly hope so, although several of the introductory articles indicated the MBUSA was going to position it BETWEEN the E320 and E500. So I am worried.
