Clicking in Rear Suspension and Steering Rack Leak

Hey fellow W211 owners, I need a little help diagnosing a rear suspension issue. I have a 2008 E350 Sport with about 144K miles. Recently I started noticing a click sound when taking off from a dead stop (either forward or reverse). I got a helper and we pinpointed it to the rear left wheel area. Also, when putting the vehicle in drive or reverse at a dead stop with the brakes applied, I can see the wheel shudder a little bit. I think it's obvious something is worn out down there.
First reaction was to replace as many components as I can find on a parts list, but that adds up very quick. Any thoughts on what the actual culprit may be?
On the steering rack, I have a drip coming from near the end of the rack on the driver's side. I found a seal kit that costs chump change compared to the price of a new steering rack. Is it advisable to replace the seals, or would it be an exercise in futility?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
