DRL solution for w211
Hello
did anyone found a solution to add daytime running lights to the w211
I had some troubles in another country because I had the fog lights on, during the day and the police officer wanted to write a penalty for that
I would like to avoid the lights during the day, I would like them on automatic, and the DRL always On.
the wiring is easy for me, just a type of buld and an idea where to put it
thanks

I read it on ML models, that changing the country in cluster menu does the trick.
Canada require DLR, when changing it to USA kills the option.
That might also reset km to miles, but I like to play with those option when stuck in traffic, so this is something you can figure out sooner or later.

On w211 there is an option in the menu to switch on always the main lights.
but I don’t want to burn them during the day
i wouldlike to install 2 stupid cheap led lights somewhere in the front and connect them in one fuse that is activated with the key
just want an idea where to put the lights and to don’t make it horrible

You need to check local laws as there might be quite different laws.
Just like mentioned fog lights are legal to be constantly on in USA, when they can cost you a ticket in Europe.
But as an idea, look what MB did for DLR on W212. They have several designs and here is one as sample.

On my US-spec 2005 W211, I can turn the DRLs on or off under the settings menu on the instrument cluster; I would expect yours to be the same.
Folder up or down to "settings".
Arrow up or down to "Lamp Circuit Headlamp".
Select + or - for automatic or manual headlamps.
If you end up in a three-element submenu "Instrument cluster/vehicle/lighting", use the +/- buttons to highlight "lighting", then up or down arrow to go into that menu and use the +/- buttons to select automatic or manual control of the headlamps.
FWIW, I've been experimenting with this and turned off DRLs for a few weeks then re-enabled them last week. Also rather neat to place temperature or speedometer readout on the bottom of the cluster no matter what is displayed. Thought about changing the display to Deutsche language but that might be over the top.

Yes I know this
it is for headlights
not drl
I don’t want the headlights on, I want to add DRL physically, different from headlights
thanks anyway

I've been looking at these DLR LED light bars from Phillips. A bit pricey but should be good quality= bright. They come in 4 or 8 LED wide.
I like you do not want to run the Bi Xenon's in my W211 during the day. I have been running the fog lamps so far here in the US without incident.

On our 2004 pre-facelift there is a black plastic "mesh patterned" lower valence insert just inboard from the fog lamps. The LED strips could be thru-bolted in there possibly.

Just a general question but is there any reason to not just turn on the city/park lights? They head lights wouldn't be on. All the DRL look look like an after thought on our model and just seems out of place to me for some reason.
There was a company that had a GB on there for e63 DRL that looked decent but I believe you needed their bumper so that doesn't make it cost effective at all.

Yes so why not just turn on the parking lights while driving? Oncoming traffic can see them at a good distance. I have forgotten to turn mine off for over 12 hours and the car still started easily.

If you have BiXenons, I prefer not to run them during the day to try to get some more life out of them. The front running lights, parking lights or city lights (what ever you want to call them) in the high beam fixtures are pathetically dim. Basically just a dome light bulb in there. I recently replaced those with real plug & play LED bulb replacement from fleabay. These are nice & bright and are very close to the BiXenon headlamp color as an added bonus.
For now we have the "parking" lights and the fog lamps during the day. This runs all the running - parking lamps front & rear probably shortening the life span of those costly rear bulbs. LED fog lamp replacement bulbs will be next in our ride very soon. I can't afford the latest generation Philips-Lumileds Luxeon Z ES LED chip bulbs but will settle for some second generation Cree device bulbs in the $30-$50 a pair range.
