Aftermarket Bluetooth Dongle

This is what I need to make the Bluetooth phone work.
My car has the built in Bluetooth module but no dongle in the armrest hence the phone connection doesn’t work. Is there any aftermarket dongle that would make Bluetooth work or allow a USB connection?

You just buy them on eBay. I believe the part number is B67876131 which is the 3rd gen puck pictured above and is better than the 2nd gen puck which is silver. The 3rd gen tends to cost a little bit more. If you wait, you can usually find a decent auction, otherwise the usual buy it now prices are usually too high. About $100-$120 is a decent price.

I’m looking for something a bit cheaper and also something that could make aux input possible as my car doesn’t have an aux jack in the glove box (I have the Audio 20 CD with the CD changer). I’m not sure if there’s an aftermarket dongle that would make this possible, but I’m still looking around.

I found this dongle on eBay, would it work?

Audio 2.0? What year is your car? That puck only works for certain years.

That ebay item will only work for certain years of NTG/Comand. For W211, probably just 2009 as that had updated comand and built in bluetooth.

For the bluetooth puck, I think maybe only 2006-2008 and the car had to be wired for bluetooth.

For certain items, there's no aftermarket alternative to an MB part. This is one of them.

My car is 2006 and is wired for Bluetooth. It doesn’t have comand but has the Audio 20 system with phone controls on the unit and steering etc. Is there really no other cheaper option even for adding an aux input?

I found an iPhone UHI cradle on eBay. Would this work in my car since the model number starts with 212 and not 211, also does this enable aux input to the system when the phone is plugged in?
Since this cradle exists with the lighting port would there nor be an aftermarket cable for UHI port to lighting?

You have the connector in the center glove box correct? Just because you have it on the steering wheel doesn't mean it's wired for bluetooth, that was a separate option. Remember, this was a 50-60k car when it was new, the puck was about $500 new. What's the vin? You can run it through a vin decoder to see if it had the wired for bluetooth option.

The cheaper option is to get the 2nd gen bluetooth puck, it's slightly cheaper. That other ebay item doesn't even show up when you run it through a US MB dealer. Stuff works differently in different countries.

I know it’s wired for Bluetooth because sometimes I can detect a Bluetooth device named UHI-xxx... on my phone.

One thing I’ve come across now is that there is a cradle for an iPhone 5/5S (I thought they only made one for the Nokia). I looked at this and it seems that you still connect your phone via Bluetooth to the cradle but you place your phone in the cradle for better reception and charging. The cradles are a lot cheaper than the normal Bluetooth adapter so what I want to know is will the cradle (for the iPhone 5/5S) connect to a iPhone 6S or Samsung as well? I know the actual cradle wouldn’t be able to hold the phone for charging etc but since the main functionality is over Bluetooth I’m assuming it would work.

Are you in the US? You also didn't answer my previous question, what's the VIN? Or just run your vin through this vin decoder and let me know if you see an option that says wired for bluetooth, I think it's option code 389.

Oh here's a better description:

Looks like just 2009+ and it's for W212. Europe tends to get cars 1 year before the US so their W212 started in 2009 whereas ours was in 2010. In 2009 they went to a newer version of NTG where bluetooth was built in so it makes sense that the cradle you referenced is only for charging.

This BlackBerry cradle does seem to work with a W211 and also still connects via Bluetooth, the instruction manual confirms it.

Well good luck to you. I don't know where you live or whether you have the option codes mentions in those documents so no idea if this will work or not. US option code for bluetooth was 389, those documents mention different numbers which is what they did with different generations.

Thanks, I checked and my car does have the mentioned option code. If it doesn’t work for what ever reason I got it at a really low price so not a big loss. One last thing I’m trying to find out is if it’s possible to have an auxiliary input (Bluetooth or physical) to the Audio 20 system. On the upgraded comand system it has a audio jack in the glove box. I can see where the audio jack should be in my car but it isn’t there. Is there any reasonable way of adding an audio input as I don’t think the 211s had Bluetooth streaming.

2008 W211 - E300
I'm also investigating a similar case. Mine is a 2008 W211 (Japan Spec) and has the below cable. Any suggestions on what Bluetooth

adapter it can connect to in order to support Bluetooth hands-free calling and music streaming?
