Is Replacing the Auxiliary Battery Easy?
2003 E320 4-Matic. Got the red warning to visit the workshop. Shop said the regular battery is good, but the auxiliary battery needs replacement. Asked for $280. Looks like a replacement online is about $100.
Is it easy to replace by oneself? Thanks in advance for any feedback out there.

In the engine compartment, On the right side of vehicle up towards the windshield there is a rubber cover held in place by 3 fasteners which you turn 90 degrees, remove the rubber cover, this exposes the cabin filter cover then remove a plastic hold down nut which allows Removal of the cabin filter which exposes the Aux battery.

1922 Ford Model T / no OBD
The early W212 have 2nd battery backup for steering and parking brake, so it is small and dash-mounted.
Later models with ECO restart have bigger aux battery in trunk.

Yes sir - that's the one I have. In Australia it was cheaper to buy the genuine Mercedes Benz replacement than the aftermarket alternative.

Can anyone help? I bought a cheaper knockoff. I removed the covers and the old MB aux battery. Probably is the bolt/washer that remains does NOT fit my new battery. My new battery came with its own bolt/washer, but I am stumped how to remove the original bolt that connects to the battery. It just spins, and it appears that there are some pinched covers that keep it in place.
Any ideas how to do this? Also, is there a good trick to keeping the washer in place when I can eventually secure it with the new bolt so that the washer doesn't get lost? Maybe use some tape to keep it in place?
Thanks.

I didn't have to remove the old bolt from the battery cable. It screwed into the terminal perfectly once I put the insert into the terminal block.
