W211 Comand Maps and Firmware Update
Hello All,
I'm looking to update the maps and firmware on my W211's Comand system, but I've found so much conflicting information that I want to ask the experts (you!) for some help!
The current disk in the reader in the boot is COMAND APS 2008 0 Version 8.0 A2118271565.
The system is running an older system software / firmware version as I don't have the ETA in Nav, and it doesn't pick up the album and track names from some audio CD's.
I've found the latest maps disk (A2118270701), however, it's 179 Euro from MB, £29.99 from here, and just £16.99 from eBay.
Some people online were warning about cheaper / lower quality disks not working and / or damaging their readers. Does anyone have experience with this?
I'm also a bit confused as to the update process, and if updating the maps and the system software is done at the same time, from the same disk, or if not where I can get the disk to update the system itself.
The eBay listing says:
Discs Included: 2018 NTG1 disc (V19) + NTG1 V12 (V12 disc is only needed as an intermediate disc if you are on a older update than v12.
Please message us if you need the v12 disc or it will not be sent out with your order.
If your current update is older than 5 years, the V18 disc will not work until you install V12 first to update your system within 5 years difference. If you do not require V12 please message us once ordered.
If you need version older than V12 please message me and we can discuss the intermediate upgraded steps
So I'm assuming that I need to install the V12 maps first? Since I have V8 at the moment can I go straight to V12, or do I need to do V9/10/11?
If any of you could give me an idots step by step of the things I need an what order to do them in that would be fantastic!
Thank you very much, AMDV

I believe you need update with disk part # 211589132200 for COMAND firmware update before loading newest new map data. See here: http://www.mercupgrades.com/COMAND-A...faq-10.html#19

Thanks very much for getting back to me konigstiger.
I was hoping that this would be a quick couple of downloads and burns to update the system and then buy a new maps disk, but the more I look into it, the more I think that I may have to get my local MB dealer to do it...........

Progress...
Thank you very much Stuttgarten, I had been searching for another thread but most had dead links, this one's are mostly still live!!
Something that keeps coming up is that the EU and US COMAND systems have different firmware, which just makes this so much easier
Mines a UK model, so this link giving a download for the Euro one straight from MB is a godsend!
So:
1) Can anyone confirm that the update W 211 589 13 22 00 (SW-Rel. 21.090 | SW 30/06) is the most recent for EU models?
To compare, I believe from my hunting that the US one is W 211 589 14 22 00 (SW 46/06).
2) I know that I also 'need to update the navigation processor in the trunk to recognize newer navigation DVDs.'
COMAND update (w211589142200) performed by inserting the service DVD into head unit single disc player.
Navigation module/processor update (w211589152200) performed by inserting service DVD into navigation drive in trunk.
From what I can see 211589152200 is good for both US and EU models, but if anyone else has a confirmation that would be great!
From the thread above it seems that obtaining this from either parts stores or dealers is a pain. There was a torrent link, but it is dead now. If anyone has one that I could buy / borrow / Dropbox that would be amazing. Otherwise there's an eBay listing with it and a 2019 map here that I'm sure is 100% legitimate.....
Thank you all for your help so far, AMDV

New 2008 and cannot use bluetooth or Nav
I am unable to use Nav or bluetooth. The dealership that sold me the car purchased a replacement CD since it was missing when I purchased the vehicle. The map shows the city of Gillette, WY and I live 7 hours south; in Southern CO. In addition, Comand will randomly shut iff after displaying the error message “please start engine or Comand will shut off in 3 minutes”. I have been completely unsuccessful in pairing my iphone to the installed MB Bluetooth adapter. It says “acquiring”, but the display shows ‘no service’ and when it asks for a number I never get the entire number entered before it shuts off the phone feature.

I used to get that message if I had been listening to music while engine was off, indicating a low car battery. First, I'd get batteries check; main and auxiliary, and that could resolve that problem message. Ad to GPS malfunction, it could be that COMAND hasn't been updated to latest firmware, here is a link where you could it downloaded:
https://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg/641276-command-unit-software-update-links-2.html
As to difficulty with BT pairing it could be a bad BT adapter, and these are everywhere on ebay if a replacement is needed. If you have access to MB Diagnostics, it would properly pin point where problems are. Checking batteries health is your first step here, and if they need changing, it could help solve your other problems.

Hello guys, i am looking for working link/torrent. So i can download this old map:
Mercedes-Benz Navigations-DVD Comand APS (NTG1) 2011/2012 (v12.0)
I have v19 but its just wont work and as far as i could understand it will not work without some updates that are coming from v12.
Thanks!

Hi both, sorry for the delay in getting back to you.
I found the COMAND update (w211589142200 - for the head unit) online, installed this and it worked perfectly.
I then "found" a newer map (v18 I think) that also had the v12 disk bundled with it, and that hasnt worked too reliably. Bad burn I suspect!
You've made me think about trying to update it again though!
