I heard the E500 was going to be about the same price as the current E430. The article lists the est. price range from 49k-65k. Is this price range the base or including options and packages.

I think the real review is in the paper magazine... this is just a brief mention in the online version. 
And from what i understand, the price should be in the same range as the current E.

I hope those prices are from E320 base all the way to E500 fully loaded. I can imagine that an E500 with air-matic, sport package, Nav and glass roof will cost in the mid $60k.
I am always surprised that anyone would paying $65k for a fully loaded E430 when the E55 is only $9k away. Most buyers are only looking at the base prices of $54k and $72k when they comparison shop.
