transmission fluid level check
Is there a way to check the transmission fluid level on my 2006 E350 Base? I've searched for the black fill cap with the red lock piece and can't seem to find in on my model. Help a newbie.

What transmission you have?
5G level can be check by service dipstick, while 7G have only overfill tube accessible from down below.

My '05 CDI has the five speed and I purchased the dipstick for it. I'd recommend letting the dealer do it with the Star computer.
It it is a pain as the dipstick says 25C and 80C which sort of means cold and hot; however, immediately after running through the gears it is above 25C. I used a thermocouple down the dipstick tube to get temp. Then I ran the engine parked in drive until I got 80C. Then I added fluid and rechecked. With two people, you can get it fairly quickly but you need to work together as the correct level is very temperature sensitive.
I assume the Star system monitors temperature and fluid level electronically and let's a mechanic get it right easily at any temperature.
Good luck,
Peter

Those days $10 bluetooth OBD scanner will read ATF temperature, beside infra-red thermometers.
There is no ATF level sensor on any of those transmissions. You have to get your fingers dirty.
