Hello,
The current tire set and rim on my 2004 E320 4Matic is 225/55/R16. I am looking to pick up winter tires from a friend's old e class and was wondering if I can put on 215/55/R16 on the vehicle?
Is this ratio reasonable to be interchangeable? or is it best to just stick to the 225/55/r16?

You should be fine. There isn't that much of a difference between a 215 and a 225. With the 4Matic your biggest worry is maintaining the same height between all the tires.

Thanks so much Strigoi for your insight which will save me a few bucks for sure.

Also , would you see an issue if I only use a pair of the tires that are 215/55/r16 with the front pair remaining 225 or vice versa depending on wear?

Since you have the 4Matic I'd stick with the same size all around. Having the fronts and rears moving at different speeds could cause damage and throw off the computers some (especially traction control).
