"Easy" entry question
"Easy" entry question
I searched the archives and am a bit confused about this subject.
Is there a way to get the car to "recognize" which key is being used (for example, when unlocking the car) so that the seat will automatically move to the last position used by that specific key?
Here's the deal. She has her key and I have mine. She sits close and I don't. She gets out and I go to drive later, but I have to move the seat back everytime before I get in and drive with my key.
With our last W211, the steering wheel would move up and the seat would move back when selecting the "easy entry" option. However, this car only seems to raise the steering wheel. The seat does not move back...
TIA

What SHOULD happen:
1. If the easy entry feature is activated on her key (and yours) then the seat should move to the back position and steering wheel should go up when she takes her key out.
2. The steering wheel and seat should return to the LAST position for each key when inserted.
3. If you drive with the seat "back" past a certain point the seat will not go back further when you remove the key. Mine was stopped pretty far forward and I had them change the setting. I had to sign a disclaimer so that if anyone in back seat got toes pinched they were not a fault. Sounds dumb but true.
4. If the easy exit feature is active with both keys and it is not working, it needs repair. Both of my W211's had to be repaired.

I drive pretty far back too, and my seat does not move, but the wheel does go up when the keyless go button is pressed & I get ready to leave. I have moved the seat forward & memorized the position as a test, but only the wheel goes up. the seat never moves back (all is set up correctly in set up. I tried making the feature key dependent to no avail), so I undid "key dependent". I enquired about this at the dealer & they say my normal driving position is back past the "auto move the seat back" point. (This does not address your problem though). I don't think the feature works right in most of the E's... Or the directions are not clear enough about what to expect, or finally, we are all idiots. I guess they had so much to address resolving the 211's quality issues (which I think they have successfully done by tackeling the problems from "worst to first")
I also think they have done a pretty good job sorting most messes out. I hope, they keep pecking at the problem list & eventually cover all the problems with patches/upgrades to software & fixing them at regular service appointments. The reputation will restore itself that way. Yeah, maybe they rushed the 211's out the door too fast, but they had to catch up to the new levels of styling & content. The decontenting items will likely not be missed by the masses. The prices will remain high & the quality will to, making the cars objects of desire & keeping values high.

Thanks, everyone. I hope this works. Otherwise...

etenn, thanks for the info. So, after unlocking the car, the seat only moves to its respective position after the key has been inserted into the ignition? I haven't tried that yet... since I can't even get in the car after my wife has driven because the seat is too close! I'll double check my settings and try throwing the key in first next time and see if the seat moves back.

Double check to see that the easy exit/entry is enable on your wifes key. If it is and it is not moving back.....something is wrong and you should take it (and both keys) in for service. It can be corrected. I have had it done on two different W211's.

...But even if "key dependent" is switched off, shouldn't the seat move BACK whenever ANY key is removed?(Assuming "Seat AND wheel" has been selected) I sort of feel the backward move should take place when you shut the car off (keyless go shut down also, no matter which key/shut down procedure is used, since no matter what, you would want to "exit easy".
The move forward SHOULDN'T work if key dependent is "OFF", since the car wouldn't know which driver's position to assume, unless it just assumes the LAST driver to use the car's position, or it assums Driver # 1" ???

It should move back and the steering wheel should move up to enable an easy exit.

Noooo.....the seat should go back to the exit position after your wife removes her key. Then when you get in the seat is back and should move to your last position when you insert your key.

Haha... and they call it "easy entry"!
Thanks again for your help.
