2007 W211 On-command DVD/DVD Player?
Looking at it, it is obvious what it is (a DVD with all the road data for the NAV system).
I have a few questions about this...
- Does the DVD need to be in the slot for the NAV to work? Does it read the DVD in real-time while being used or does it read the DVD and load the data into some internal memory or cache meaning after loading it initially it no longer needs the DVD?
- Is it possible to use (if this even exists?) a newer DVD, to get more recent road data? Or is the current system only compatible with the current disc? If there is a newer/updated disk, where do I get that?
- Is this DVD-ROM in the trunk ONLY for this purpose? To read the navigation DVD? It seems crazy to me (in this day in age, maybe in 2007 this wasn't that crazy) to have a whole DVD system just for this one purpose?
- Can it play regular DVD videos over the infotainment system through this trunk DVD slot? My guess is NO, but.... just asking.
