03 e500 exhaust
Hi i have a w211 03 e500. Rwd. Has 230k original miles and runs drives shifts like new. The only issues ive had are airmatic suspenion which i swapped out for bc racing coilovers. Br series. And other issue is exhaust broke apart. Ive fixed everything other than a few minor tweaks but now i want to hear the v8 a little more. I want to keep both cats. As i have no dash lights at all. And i would like i quiet-ish idle. What im considering is. Resonator delete with factory mufflers for now then e55 or e63 once i get bumper cut out. Or muffler delete, capped j pipe and keep resonators. I want to hear the v8 when i want to hear it but normal driving still quiet. Any thoughts or opinions would be awesome. I know its not a amg. I dont want to spend 3- 4k for what i can have a shop do for a fraction of the price. Im 25 with 2 kids. And this is my weekend driver. Little background.
All factory. Plans are exhaust, eurocharged ecu and tcu tune, needswings intake, drilled slotted rotors and thats about it. Goal is 350 whp (400-450 to the crank) so might end up doing more. Quick reliable weekend cruiser.

Here's my 2003 E500 with E55 AMG mufflers, Renntech carbon fiber airbox, Eurocharged mid-length headers and ECU tune, resonator delete with X-pipe.
Quiet at idle and cruising but nice throaty rumble when stomping on the gas.
Bumper cutouts done by the muffler shop using my Dremel tool, contact paper and template.

much info on this forum, but consensus is cut the resonators out and X pipe. different mufflers are a plus too if able to source some from a salvaged AMG

Thanks for the replys fellas. So resonator alone isnt enough i see. Were you able to get one fabbed up at a shop or do you buy one already built. Also eurocharged headers was their any gain in power also sound? Also ecu tune was this worth the money? Thanks for replys.

also did you get a dyno tune or tune from hand held tuner or similar?

Ive already got my quote from eurocharged cincinnati for my ecu and tcu dyno tune. Just curious if the headers are worth the extra $$$.

Your engine will breathe a lot easier and you'll notice a profound difference starting at around 2,500 rpm when stomping on the gas.
Mid-length headers alone are good for an additional 20-25 rwhp.
Together with the tunes they'll totally transform your car.
Enjoy.

For sure it's worth it to do headers - the stock manifolds are VERY restrictive.

90 whp in gains I think is a bit excessive, and they're really not all cumulative.
If you want to calculate them separately, here's what I would estimate for horsepower increases at the crank.
Headers: 25 HP
Intake: 10 HP
AMG mufflers and resonator delete: 10 HP
ECU tune: 25 HP
Total gains: 70 HP at the crank.
302 + 70 = 372 HP (almost in E550 territory).
I never dynoed my car but these would be my best guesstimates.
Just purchased a Dragy device and once I get new tires I'll check out my zero to sixty time.
Hoping for 5 seconds flat.
