thinking of buying 2007 E Wagon need help please!
I haven't done a lot of reading yet but curious if anyone could post the VIN build sheet on this car and tell me some common things I should look for.
Problems I'm worried about:
balance shaft gear i've read about that in a few threads curious if this one is affected by that.
airmatic
hows the transmission in these cars?
i know Air Matic is an issue, have all issues from the 03-06 models been addressed by 07? i know it the first year of the new body style(07-09). its a good deal in my eyes,
about $7000 no accidents 190,000KM ill try to get the price down as the service records aren't the best. body looks mint, no accidents and i like the colour and its roomy heres a few pics!
if anyone can pull a car fax I'd appreciate that too!
VIN # WDBUH87X97B155395

Yes, it has bixenons with curve illumination but not keyless go so sounds like it just got one of the options instead of the package.
Here's another vin decoder:
https://www.datamb.com/
Plus you can get a carfax on eBay for around $5 and you can get both autocheck and carfax for about $8. I'd do both as I saw an accident on autocheck that didn't show up on carfax.

I would get an 03-06 car over this 07. The 722.9 7spd transmission is more expensive to service and repair than the 722.6 5spd transmission in the early cars. Check out the cost of a conductor plate for the 722.9. The m272 has the well documented intake manifold, balance shaft and 4 cam sensor failures. The m112 and m113 engines are easier to service and maintain with fewer failure points. And the 03-06 cars have SBC brakes which are now covered by a 25 year unlimited mileage warranty.

The 4matic only had the 5 speed transmission and the 2008/2009 models are considered better than the early models, especially 2003 which had the bad radiators which would leak and ruin the transmission. Balance shaft problems only affected 2006 and the early 2007 models. Also the later models tended to have more options, the early ones were somewhat limited and certain options like active curve illumination only showed up in later years rather than early ones. Airmatic is usually standard for the rear suspension on the wagons so they're a bit more to fix than normal. Intake manifold is a well known problem though, happens at higher mileage so it's important to get the best low mileage one you can. Earlier models were known to have bad cam sensors but I believe there was a new updated part and affected early 2006/2007 models and maybe some 2008. The 2009 year is considered one of the best as is typical of the last year of a model run. While SBC coverage is good, there's still a bit more work involved in changing the brakes which isn't covered by the warranty. Plus the fuel tank may leak and that's only a 15 year warranty so even a 2004 could have the warranty expiring soon.

Just read the old threads, the early 2003-2005 models had lots of problems too. It's just that it's so old now, not too many post about them and maybe not that many are still on the road. If you go back and see the threads from 3-5 years ago, they were much more unreliable than the later years. I can't remember all the other problems they had. My 2008 has been pretty reliable. Plus there's certain things like bluetooth and the updated interior which are better post face lift than pre-face lift. Later models also tended to have more options which wasn't as common in the early models.

Before buying the 350 call up your local MB specialist and ask for a quote on a m272 balance shaft repair. Then ask if he's ever seen an m112 or m113 balance shaft failure.

Balance shaft only affected all of 2006 and some early 2007 models, probably by about the September time frame of 2006, they put in the new part. Only way to check is verify the engine number and the number for that one is well outside the range along with the production date.
"272 engine up to Serial # 30 468993 or 273 engine up 30 088611 material for the balance shaft sprocket and the timing chain guide wheel (idler) was modified on engines past these serial #s."
His engine number is: 272972 30 633111 which is well past the range.

I do a lot of work myself like brakes/ oil changes so I save a few bucks there I just defiantly don't need a car with major motor issues and transmission problems.
There is no accidents on the report the dealer sent me and it has some service records Which is nice. If I buy it I'd change all fluids right away.
I do brakes and oil myself i have an Indy for the transmission fluid.

First post! I've got a 2004 E320 Wagon (yeah, I know I'm in the sedan forum). It has been in the family (2nd owners) since 2006, when it had 36K miles on it. It is currently operating on the original engine and transmission at 346K miles. Yes, 346K miles (used to drive from North Carolina to Florida at least once a month since 2006). I haven't been through the file (it's a big file...) that came with it of service records to confirm, but apparently the engine and transmission (except for fluid changes) have never been opened up.
Glad to be here.

I would love to find a decent priced w210 E55 wagon. There's a low mileage one in Vancouver for 23k lol. If it was 10k I'd buy it hahaha

To be fair, if you really want a specific model you can always buy something from one of the rust free states and import it to Canada. Bringing a car into Canada from the US is not that hard.

To put some perspective here, W210 wagons have bigger cargo space becouse they don't have Navi player in it, nor subwoofer and some other things newer wagons do have.
So it is not exactly "free space" but process of eliminations.
I think bad wrap about 2003-2005 models come from the fact that SBC and air suspension was introduced and they come with price tags. They still have drive train grandfathered from W210, who proves to be real workhorse.
Than newer drivetrain offers more HP and more mpg, what makes it priorities choice again.
Strigoi loves his W210 in rust-free state, but avoid them when you drive on salty roads in winter.
I bought W211 wagon who spend several years in NY and the only rust I could see on it, were few bolt heads on suspension.
